Welcome to our web site!  This site was created primarily to aid our members in registering for our annual skeet shooting championships, but it also contains lots of useful and interesting information about our Association.

A picture of the new AFSA Hall of Fame wall at the NSSA Museum is now included on the AFSA Hall of Fame Members page.  Click on the associated blue button about four inches below and click on H of F Members.  Mike Brazzell provided the photo for us and built the wall as well.

The 2008 ASSC Champions were: HOA - Dean Anneser 493, 12 - Bob Myers 200, 20 - Chad Estelle - 100, 28 - Bob Myers - 100, 410 - Bob Myers - 99, and Doubles - Erik Bauer - 99.

119 HOA shooters with a great 20 new attendees: Milt Brokaw, Chris Fain, Joe Thorp Wayne Wiksen, Shawn Pyle, Larry Day, Jerry Adams, Dick Boyce, Glenn Nutter, Jim Nance, Jim Schmehl, Kim Gray, Dean Anneser, Erik Bauer, Ken Warriner, Brian Wells, Darron Todd, Roger Cross, Jonathan Rogers, and Fabian Robitaile.  A hearty welcome to each of you!

The 2009 shoot will see a change in most of the concurrent events to make the awards, shoot report, and all-american shoot report all match.  Their will be no change to total awards, but Class I concurrent awards will go to the concurrent event RU and 3rd.  Brad Felton did the homework for this.

You all received a big thank you from Laurie at the Richmond Club for being the cleanest and most considerate group to ever use their facility.  She particularly noted that we did not litter her roads and ranges like those from some other shoots.

Many thanks to John Daubenschmidt and Brad Felton for all of the computers ops work, and to Ed Hughes for his help during registration proving that he hasn't forgotten a thing in the last nine years.  This was Clint Kreuser's first year as our chief referee and secretary.  He did great and climbed the learning curve to do both of those important jobs without falter.

Paul Pearce stepped up to the plate to transfer all of the guns to the winners at no charge other than the usual registration fee.  Our thanks to Paul for making this happen.

More special thanks to Don McKown and Chad Estelle for donating the proofs this year.

The D Class HOA shotgun was donated by Cotton Talbott and Ed Hughes this year.  Mike Brazzell donated the shotgun in 2007 and Pat Knutson will donate it for the 2009 championships.

The 2008 Hall of Fame Banquet was held at the Fort Lee Officer's Club. The door prize winners were: AFSA Quilt - Mark Haughs, Condor Outfitters hunting trip in Uruguay - John Peters, Remington 1100 - Pat Knutson, Kolar Tube Set - Jonathan Rogers, Briley Companion Tubes - Ron Stewart, Briley Chokes - Rob Hamlett, Pylinski Arms gift certificates - Wayne Wiksen and Layne Merritt, Allian Powder pouches - Charles Thompson and Don Anneser, Remington knives - Joe Gugino, Ted Meunier, Ed Dunivant, Shawn Pyle, Tim Koller and Wayne Wiksen, Country Gentlemen recoil pads - Kim Gray and Russ Stevens, and Embroidery Me AFSA coffee mugs - Clyde Simmons, Boyd Smith, and Ken Pitman.

The general membership voted almost unanimously to return to silver coins regardless of the effect on shoot entry fees.

The 2009 Championships will be in Albuquerque, NM.

The Skeet Shooting Ladies of Virginia donated a gorgeous AFSA quilt for a door prize.

This quilt is a gift from the Women of Virginia

To Honor Our Military Veterans

Idea by Sunni Winkler and Barbara Mozisek

Designed and made by Kathie Latimer

Embroidery by Judy Wilkin

Quilted by Penny Bacastow

Supported by Becky Myers, Marilynne Eklund

Kathy Moscoe, Judy Harding, and Marilyn Weinley

Quilts have two main attributes: the colorful pieced top and the intricate stitching (quilting) that form design patterns and hold the layers of material together. In this quilt, much thought was given to make the whole quite memorable.

As you examine this useful piece of art, please notice:

The embroidered title and date are flanked by outlines (in the quilting stitches) of over and under shotguns used in skeet competition.

The quilting stitches on the flag form a wave pattern: our two oceans AND our "waves of grain."

The flag and eagle blocks on each side of the flag are quilted in a military wreath pattern.

Each of the five services is represented in a separate colorful block: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

The quilting stitches on each block outline the appropriate service shield (Army, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard). The Navy block has quilting stitches that form a compass.

Color blocks in between each of the "service blocks" show general themes: soldiers, airplanes, and helicopters. The quilting stitches on each of these blocks outline an eagle.

The quilting stitches on the narrow blue band that borders the service blocks has the name and dates of all the wars our American Servicemen have fought in, starting with the American Revolution and continuing through the Gulf War.

The beige border features stars, wreaths, and the Purple Heart melded in silhouette in the quilting stitches.
